General Questions


1. What is SEO Count?

SEO Count is a Web based Google™ search engine ranking and link analysis reporting tool. SEO Count allows you to easily create reports and run them over and over again. Each run can then be analyzed against each other. This enables you to easily review your progress over time and see where you need improvement.

2. How does SEO Count work?

SEO Count submits queries through the Google Web API, processes the returned results and presents it to the Web user via the Web.

3. Is SEO Count safe?

SEO Count uses the Google™ Web API. This is the only product of its kind that utilizes the Google Web API. Not only does using the Google Web API speed your reporting needs, it also ensures that you do not screen scrap Google's contents. Other popular products that have a similar function come with the risk of banning your site from the Google index.

4. Why do I have to sign up for a Google Web API key?

SEO Count uses the Google™ Web API do retrieve the data necessary for your reports. Using the Google Web API requires that each individual has their own license key. Google requires this because the key uniquely identifies you to Google. We use it to provide your daily limit of 1,000 free queries.

5. How do I get access to the Google Web APIs service?

You must first agree to the terms and conditions of the Google Web APIs service and create a Google Account. Google will then email you a license key to use with your Google Web APIs applications. Every time you make a call to the Google Web APIs service, you must include your license key.

6. How do I create a Google Account?

You can create an account by visiting http://www.google.com/apis/ and following the instructions on the page. All you need to provide is your email address and a password.

7. Why is the daily limit only 1,000 queries?

The Google Web APIs service is an experimental free program, so the resources available to support the program are limited.

8. The Google API is in "beta". What does it mean to be a "beta" service?

This means Google does not guarantee the availability of the service. Since this is an experimental service, Google may take the service down for maintenance, change the APIs in ways that may be incompatible with developer applications, or discontinue the service entirely.

9. Do I have to input the keywords each time I want to check my site's position or does SEO Count remember my keywords in the report setup?

SEO Count remembers yours keywords. You set up your report(s) with keywords and it saves it for you. You simply run it over and over again and it stores the data.

2. When am I billed?

You are billed when your account is activated. You will then be billed every subsequent year for this product. If you choose to cancel your account before the year ends, please email cancellations@seocount.com.

Technical Questions


1. How do I change my account information?

Once you are logged in you will see a "My Account" tab, please click on that tab and you will be able to modify your information there.

2. I want to add more Google API Keys to my account, how do I do it?

We do not allow you to add more than one Google API Key to an email address (username). If you would like to add more keys a different person will need to sign up under a different user and a new plan. Google explicitly says "The terms and conditions you agree to restrict you one account for your personal use. Users who attempt to create more than one account are subject to being banned from the Google Web APIs service."

3. What are Google Web APIs?

The Google Web APIs service is a beta web program that enables developers to easily find and manipulate information on the web.

4. How does the Google Web APIs service work?

Developers write software programs that connect remotely to the Google Web APIs service. Communication is performed via the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), an XML-based mechanism for exchanging typed information.

5. What happens if I go over my limit of 1,000 queries in one day?

If you make more than 1,000 queries in a day, our server will respond with a SOAP Fault stating that you exceeded your daily query total. You might want to get some sleep and start querying again tomorrow.

6. Is there a limit on the number of results I can receive per query with the Google API?

Yes. You can retrieve a maximum of 10 results per query, and you cannot access information beyond the 1000th result for any given query.

7. I usually get 2 indexed pages shown in Google for each keyword/phrase search. Does the report show more than one result per keyword?

Not currently. If our customers show interest in this feature we can easily add it. Please email us if you are interested and we will listen!

8. Google might index my site as both www.mysite.com and mysite.com. Are these the same URL for SEO Count purposes?

SEO Count uses the Google API, however Google treats the URL SEO Count will treat it the same way. Futhermore, There has always been discussion with the www vs no www. This encompasses back links to your URL which influences your PR. Many SEOs try to ensure that Google only indexes the www version to help increase Page Rank (PR) and ease reporting.

9. Does SEO Count Support UTF-8 Encoding (i.e. words like "Fürstentum")?

Yes! Google does support UTF-8 Encoding. Since the Google API provides results for UTF-8 Encoding we are able to do so as well. Google says in their API FAQ, "The Google Web APIs support requests and responses in UTF-8, allowing you to make requests in all of the world's languages. The original release included parameters and for inputEncoding and outputEncoding. These parameters are no longer used and will be removed in a future release. The APIs still do not always return complete results for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean; we are working to remedy this issue."

10. Can I search other country based Google engines (i.e. www.google.de)?

No, the Google API currently does not enable us to include this in the SEO Count service. When it becomes available, we will provide this as a feature.
